Sunlight Divers, Perhentian Kecil, MalaysiaLocated a couple of hours south of the Thai border on the east coast of peninsular Malaysia are the beautiful Perhentian islands. Famed for white sand, clear sea, excellent diving and a relaxed way of life, the islands are a backpackers and holiday makers' dream.As soon as you leave the boat station at Kuala Besut for the 21km ride across the melted sapphire coastal waters you know you're in a different world. You've paid your fee to enter one of Malaysia's premier marine parks, and as the picture come into focus you're not disappointed. You see the crazy rock formations by the sea; the silky soft sand and coconut palms; and virgin jungle behind making up the islands of Besar (Malay for big) and Kecil (Malay for small). So you have two choices. If you go to Besar you can relax the days away with some good restaurants and nice spacious rooms; honeymooners, families, and people who want a little privacy get off here. By day relax on the beach, take a stroll in the jungle or maybe go diving, and when night comes relax on your balcony, read a good book whilst you listen to the sounds of the jungle. 
Your second choice is Kecil, the most popular island. Centred around Long
Beach for backpackers and tourists, and the fishing village for residents
(this is the administrative hub for both islands). On Kecil you have a wide
range of accommodation from dorm rooms to standard A frame huts to air-con
en-suite. There are quiet getaways for privacy and peace to the North and
the South, or there is a healthy traveller 'scene' with beer, banana
pancakes, book exchanges, and the occasion party on Long Beach.
